Dimemond Mentality created a photo set revolving around GLOSS RAGS, AND COUNTING collection.
DM reached out to the founder and lead creator behind Gloss Rags, Randi Gloss. Based out of Washington, DC, Randi Gloss's creation of Gloss Rags simply came from her participating in a march in 2013. She participated in being a part of the March on Washington 50th Anniversary. Prior to beginning the march, she was allowed to choose to create signs, which would empower the message of the march further. She then added the names, "Emmett, Amadou, Sean, Oscar, Trayvon. More than just black faces in tragic places".
As she was holding the sign throughout the event, she continuously got stopped. Eyes were incredibly interested in the sign, always asking to take photos of it.
From that milestone experience, Randi knew what she wanted and needed to do.
Randi Gloss is an incredible individual, who is enthusiastically determined to "creating critically crafted designs that are a catalyst for social activism and discourse". She understands her roots, the struggle that many face, being a young, black individual in America today. Her potential solution, is to create simple designs on apparel, to raise eyebrows, gain looks, and most of all, let people feel that they are apart of a movement of awareness.
Dimemond Mentality is a huge fan of the And Counting collection, and spotted a new way to create even more awareness. DM brought the t-shirts to Canada, created a unique photo set, to show that it does not only take American citizens and residents to understand the injustice that is served there, but is essentially a globalized issue. By creating this collaboration, Gloss Rags finally hit Canadian streets, and will hopefully soon hit other parts of the world, as we work as a team of young individuals, trying invoke stories of the individuals who are no longer here to speak, and proudly say their name(s).
